With every single crumb of memorabilia and footage of The Beatles now at its highest premium, it seems unimaginable that any clips of the Fab Four could be forgotten about. But that’s what happened in Wales yesterday.
The film was found during the clearance of the house and is set to go to auction with a valuation of £10,000. The footage previously thought of as “lost” has been described as a “great find” by Paul Fairweather of Omega Auctions.The candid footage not only sees John, Paul, George and Ringo messing around with the interviewer, all with a glint of boyish charm in their eye, and also sees them doing an impromptu performance of ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business”.Additional footage has also been found from 1967, which shows The Beatles talking about the spiritual figure, and a new friend of the band, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. They explore the relationship between them and his teachings. John Lennon said: “Of course it’s not a cult and if we didn’t take it seriously we wouldn’t be here.”A final third recording was also found, valued again at £10,000, which sees Lennon playing his acoustic guitar and giving a different rendition of ‘God’. The track would be released as part of Lennon’s solo projects.
“All four Beatles are in fine form throughout both of the Cardiff films, laughing and joking, while the interviewer tries to remain serious,” Fairweather said of the tapes.
“The sound and image quality is fantastic. I expect these have never been seen since 1965″
