The Queen gravy train continues to roll through as a new, previously unheard, version of Freddie Mercury’s 1986 hit ‘Time Waits For No One’ is being released complete with a brand new video.
Recorded just five years before his untimely death, the original track was recorded in 1985 with Mercury teaming up with Dave Clark for the Time concept album, based on the London musical of the same name. The original track was titled simply ‘Time’ and had Mercury backed by a gargantuan arrangement with a duly theatrical backing.After finding the archived original tape in the spring of 2018, Clark has now released the original vocal recording. The track is massively stripped back and puts Mercury’s unstoppable vocals centre stage alongside a new piano line.
Speaking to NME Clark spoke about the original sessions and working with the Queen icon: “We got on great…if I didn’t like something I’d say, and vice versa…we were both aiming for the same thing: to make something special.”Alongside the new version of the song comes a new video too. As Clark, while digging in his archives (how big are they, and what else is in there?), managed to find the original negatives of the recording session which captured the session at London’s Dominion Theatre.
An official release states: “‘Time Waits For No One’ is a tribute to the musical force of Freddie Mercury; the performance, the drama, the vocal range, and after four decades waiting in the wings, is finally out for new and old fans alike.”
